Prayer Request
These oblates from Vietnam asked for our prayers. Catholics are persecuted in Vietnam, especially in the countryside where ordination of priests has been banned.
The photo is of our Oblate Director, Father Michael Kwatera, OSB, and myself at Saint John's in Collegeville, Minnesota. Three from Saint John's Abbey are attending the Congress: Father Luigi Bertocchi, OSB, Katherine Wallace, OblSB, and myself. I am very grateful for the honor of representing the oblates of Saint John's Abbey at this Congress of Oblates. —Mary Fran Karanikolas, OblSB
Father Luigi Bertocchi
Father Luigi was born in Venice, Italy, and was ordained a priest in 1970. Later he joined the Saint John's monastic community, taking vows in 1990. He has a continuing interest in exploring relationships between Eastern meditation practices and Roman Catholic beliefs. Currently Father Luigi serves as Assistant Sacristan after several years as Guestmaster at St. Anselmo's Benedictine monastery in Rome. In 2005 Father Luigi conceived and organized the first World Congress of Benedictine Oblates that took place in Rome. Father Luigi returned to Collegeville in spring 2008.
Request for Prayers
